Murder suspect arrested

A laborer, wanted for the murder of his neighbor two years ago, was apprehended by Station 5 policemen at his residence in GK Village-Abada Escay, Brgy. Vista Alegre, Bacolod, at about 7:30 a.m. yesterday.

Station 5 chief, Senior Insp. Richie Gohee, identified the suspect as Ricky Lim, 44, who was nabbed by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Eliseo Geolingo, who denied him bail.

Police records show that Lim and his companions, identified as Boy Bandiola and Jeffrey Bayutas, who are still at-large, ganged up on and killed Jay-R Demafeles, 40, on July 4, 2010.

Former Station 5 chief, Insp. Renato Ofamen, told the DAILY STAR that before the killing, Demafeles was at the residence of another neighbor, Evelyn Toquirre, 37, when someone lobbed a stone on its roof.

Ofamen had said Demafeles went out and saw a male relative of one of the suspects, and a heated argument ensued. Minutes later, the suspects arrived at the house of Demafeles, asked him to come out and attacked him, Ofamen said.

Demafeles died on the way to the Bacolod Doctor's Hospital from multiple stab and hack wounds, police records showed.

Gohee said Bandiola and Bayutas, who have pending warrants, are now in Manila. Lim has denied involvement in the crime, claiming it was Bandiola and Bayutas who killed Demafeles, the police added.*APN

Police apprehend
2 ‘robbers'

A suspected snatcher was apprehended by the police in Brgy. Villamonte Wednesday, while a man wanted for robbery was arrested yesterday in Brgy. Mansilingan, both in Bacolod City.

Station 4 chief, Senior Insp. Dianne Grace Aquitania, said that Steve Bais, 21, of Purok Isla, Brgy. Villamonte, was arrested at his house in a hot pursuit operation at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, after he allegedly snatched the bag of a minor, whose name the police withheld.

The victim told the police she was leaving her house at Capitol Heights Subdivision at about 8 p.m., when the suspect grabbed her bag, that contained her personal belongings, and fled, Aquitania said.

She said an informant tipped them on the whereabouts of Bais, and a pursuit operation was launched that resulted in his arrest.

Police Officer 3 Rey Escañan, one of the apprehending policemen, said the victim's cellular phone was recovered near her house, where it may have fallen while she was grappling with the suspect. Bais is now detained at the lockup cell of Police Station 4, and theft charges are being readied against him.

Station 7 commander, Chief Insp. Levy Pangue, also reported the arrest of robbery suspect Marty de la Cruz of Grandville Subdivision, Bacolod, at about 2:30 p.m. yesterday. Pangue said they arrested de la Cruz by virtue of a warrant for three counts of robbery issued by Judge Anastacio Rufon, who set his bail at P200,000 for each case.*APN

Doctor's residence;
vehicle burglarized

Burglars broke into the residence of a doctor in Brgy. 3, Bacolod City, yesterday and took several items, all valued at P9,700.

Glenn de los Reyes, 20, told the police that he discovered the robbery at the house of his father, Dr. Edy de los Reyes, when he arrived at about 7:40 a.m.

He said the items stolen included a piano valued at P2,500; an electric drill worth P3,700, and a plainer worth P3,500.

Investigation showed that the suspects entered the gate that had been left unlocked, then destroyed the lock of the main door to gain entry to the house.

Meanwhile, Emilio Henares, 47, a Church minister and a resident of the Tustin Townhouse in Brgy. Estefania, Bacolod, reported yesterday that burglars forced open his Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle parked at 4 th Lacson Street, in the city.

Henares said he discovered the back windshield of his vehicle broken and his car stereo, valued at P1,200, and a jacket worth P5,000, missing when he returned at about 8:50 p.m. Wednesday.
