A Special Action Force and Ranger-trained senior police official is the new officer-in-charge of the 6 th Regional Public Safety Battalion, a maneuver unit of the Police Regional Office 6 in Western Visayas.
Supt. Iver Apellido, Police Community Relations deputy chief of the Western Visayas, assumed on July 28, the 6 th RPSB command that was vacated by Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, who is now the officer-in-charge of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office.
Apellido also served as commander of the defunct 611 th Provincial Mobile Group in Sagay City, in 2007, police records show.
Senior Supt. Celestino Guara, chief of the PRO6 Personnel and Records Management, yesterday said Apellido qualifies for the position, as he used to be a member of the Special Action Force, an elite unit of the PNP, and had undergone training in the Scout Ranger Orientation Course of the Philippine Army.
Majority of the 6 th RPSB units are deployed in Negros Occidental. They are also actively assisting the internal security operations of the 303 rd Infantry Brigade, especially in northern Negros.*GPB
