Bacoleña in top 16
of TV talent search

Bacoleña Chanel Morales landed in the top 16 from among 13,000 hopefuls who auditioned for the “Artista Academy” reality talent search on Kapatid Network TV 5 Saturday, a press release said.

The 16-year-old daughter of Royce Morales of Iloilo City and Emie Morales of Bacolod City is the only one from Western Visayas who made it to the top 16.

Chanel and her parents thanked Negrenses and Ilonggos for their continuous support.

A TV 5 press release said that from 13,000, the “Artista Academy” aspirants were trimmed to 300, then to 178, and then to 75. Last Saturday, the reality talent search on television announced the top 16 finalists.

They will be given full scholarship to the Asian Academy of Television Arts to undergo a comprehensive curriculum-based training with professionals in the industry like director Joel Lamangan, music master Louie Ocampo, and dance guru Georcelle Dapat, the press release also said.

The 16 finalists are guaranteed talent contracts with TV5, although only two will win the “Best Actor” and “Best Actress” awards and will receive a total of P20 million prizes plus lead roles in forthcoming TV series.

The talent search, hosted by Marvin Agustin and Cesar Montano, airs Monday to Saturday evenings after “Wil Time Bigtime” over Channel 32 on free TV in Bacolod and Negros Occidental, and over Cable TV Channel 3 in Bacolod and Talisay cities, the press release added.*

The deadline of entries for the 2012 MassKara Festival streetdance barangay category and Electric MassKara performing float competitions is set at 5:30 p.m. today, streetdance committee chairman Rudy Reveche said.

The entries will be raffled 2 p.m. tomorrow at the BAYS Center to determine the 15 contingents for the barangay streetdance, and 10 for the Electric MassKara performing float competition, he said.

Last year’s Top 10 winners in the barangay streetdance and Top 3 winners in the Electric MassKara are pre-qualified to join.

The barangay streetdance competition will be on October 21, while the Electric MassKara will be on October 19 to 21.

Meanwhile, application for the operation of MassKara Festival kiosks at the Bacolod Public Plaza will be accepted by the MassKara office starting August 15 at 9 a.m., festival site manager, Ma. Carmen Vasquez, announced in a press release.

There are 132 kiosks on the three sides of the plaza that are up for rent, Vasquez said.

Kiosk rental at the San Juan side is P12,000, Gonzaga side—P11,000, and Gatuslao side—P9,000, she added.

Awarding of selling rights will be on a first come-first served basis, she stressed.

City permit is included in the rental fee. Applicants must bring community tax certificate (cedula), she said.

Orientation for kiosk operators will be on September 28 at the MassKara Hall of the Bacolod Government Center, she said.

Operation of festival kiosks will run from October 1 to 22, she added.

Those interested in the guidelines for the operation of kiosks should visit the MassKara office, as no phone inquiry will be entertained, she added.*
