Chinese Taipei keeps
tchoukball title

With 40 years of experience on their side, defending champion Chinese Taipei beat Singapore, 66-55, to keep their crown as the 5th Asia Pacific Tchoukball Championships ended yesterday at the West Negros University Gym.

With a 12-point lead in the first period, 32-20, champion coach Fang Shen Zzu said they never felt threatened against Singapore as he saw that the Chinese team has a greater advantage over its opponent.

Fang, who trained most of the teams that joined the tournament, included host Philippines, said the three-day competition showcased tchoukball as a fast emerging sports in Asia.

Chan named finals MVP as
Rain or Shine wins title

With his impressive performance in the PBA Governor’s Cup this season, Bacoleño Jeff Chan was named as the Cinnabon-PBA Press Corps Finals MVP last night, as his team Rain or Shine celebrated their first PBA crown in franchise history.

Rain or Shine turned back B-Meg, 83-76, in last night’s Game 7 showdown.

Chan, who finished with 16 points last night, averaged 12 points and 3 rebounds in 32 minutes during the finals.

Guanzon Dental beats Gentech
in Fil-Sino basketball tournament

Collecting 54 points from the three-point area in the second half, Guanzon Dental Clinic blew away MRT Gentect, 116-96, to negate Oliver Manaloto’s tournament high 55 points in last Friday’s game of the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. 2nd Conference Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

Bong Palo scored 12 triples in the second half to topscore for Gentech with 36 points, while Joel Mahinay convered three treys to finish with 23 points.

Gentech also had the game under control in the first half as Mark Velez shot 22 points and Mahinay added 12 points for a 55-46 halftime lead. Manaloto and Tubby Villanueva kept Gentech close as they registered 15 and 9 points, respectively.
