Policemen have yet to identify the suspects and motive for the fatal shooting of a lawyer in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental at about 11:45 p.m. Friday.

Sr. Supt. Edward Carranza, director of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office yesterday created the Special Investigation Task Group Zerna to probe the murder of Manolo Zerna, 48.

Initial investigation showed that at around 11: 45 p.m. Friday, Zerna had just arrived home at Legaspi Street, Barangay 9 from a party, with his live-in partner, identified as Evelyn Acas Martinez, and their four-year old son, on board a motorcycle.

Bizman shot dead

A businessman was shot at the national highway in Bonawon, at around 9 p.m. Saturday in Siaton town, Negros Oriental.

Police identified the fatality as Efren Boktolan, 61, of Barangay Bonawon in the town, who died on the spot due multiple gunshot wounds to the head and shoulder.

Boktolan was on board a motorcycle with his live-in partner, when two men on another motorcycle fired at them..

Scout ranger buried

Army Scout Ranger Private First Class Segundiano Tamayo Jr., one of the 10 soldiers killed in an encounter with the Abu Sayyaf Group in Barangay Cabengbeng, Sumisip, Basilan, last month, was laid to rest yesterday in his hometown in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, amid a 21-gun salute.

His father, retired 2Lt Segundiano Tamayo Sr. and brother, PFC Richard Tamayo, who is presently with the 73rd IB in Maasin, Saranggani province, said after the burial that they understand the life of a soldier, and for them, the scout ranger died a hero.

They both thanked President Benigno Aquino III for extending condolences, sending flowers, and ensuring that all due benefits are received by the family.
