NOPSSCEA teams clash in
LNA7 collegiate tourney

The top four college basketball teams in Bacolod City will test each other’s strength this week when the 1st LNA7 Collegiate Invitational Basketball Tournament opens this Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the West Negros University Gym.

Last year’s NOPSSCEA first runner-up University of St. La Salle Stingers will clash against University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Rams in the curtain raiser, while defending champion WNU Mustangs will take on Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod at 5 p.m.

On Saturday, the winner between the USLS vs. UNO-R match-up will face the loser in the WNU vs. CSA-B game at 3:30 p.m., while the loser between the Stingers and the Rams’ game will play against the winner in the Mustangs-Eagles face-off.

Phoenix beats Petron in
St. John’s cagefest

Getting a lift from their bench in the crucial stage of the game, Phoenix 99-2K registered an 80-67 win against Petron 2001-02, 2012, while New Energy Mktg./Shakey’s 2008, 2009-11 repulsed the second half rally of Eleven Degrees 1996-98 for a 79-70 victory in the 5th SJI Alumni Basketball Friendship Cup at the Msgr. John B. Liu Activities Center.

Joshua Co delivered 17 points in the opening quarter, leading Petron to a 26-23 advantage even as Paolo Li and Jan Jan Lopue combined for 14 points for Phoenix.

Phoenix bounced back in the next two quarters and outscored Petron, 38-23, as Jordan Chua scored eight points, while Onsi Lim and Eduardo Ng delivered two triples each to take a 61-49 lead going to the fourth quarter.

SJI Alumni to hold Fun Run

A fund-raising activity dubbed “Run Ko, Pag-asa Mo- Hua Ming Fun Run/Walk 2012” will be held by the St. John’s Institute Alumni Association, in cooperation with the SJI Parents’ Council for the benefit of the SJI Alumni Association Scholarship program on August 19, a press release from SJI said.

The event is open to those willing to join and will cover three distances – 1-kilometer, 3-kilometer, and 5-kilometer with the start and finish points set at the SJI campus in Bacolod City.

The route will be from SJI to 6th Street, turning Lacson Street to Robinson’s Place Mandalagan for the 5K turnaround . Assembly time is at 5:30 a.m. and the race will start at 6 p.m., the press release said.
