Pregnant women
day proposed

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Women’s advocate groups in Negros have found an ally in police general- turned congressman, Leopoldo Bataoil, in empowering women.

Bataoil, who was provincial police director of Negros Occidental from 1995 to 1998, and is now the Pangasinan 2nd district congressman, said he filed House Bill 6009, declaring March 10 of every year as a special non-working holiday to be known as “Araw ng mga Buntis.”

“The month of March is Women's Month. It is befitting that we give emphasis to the needs of pregnant women during the celebration of the Araw ng mga Buntis,”Bataoil, said.

The bill is pending action at the House Committee on Revision of Laws, chaired by Pangasinan Rep. Marlyn Primicias-Agabas.

Bataoil recalled that then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo issued Presidential Proclamation No. 569 on March 9, 2004 declaring March 10 as “Araw ng mga Buntis” in support to the project of the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (Foundation) Inc.*GPB
