Cops hunting tricycle driver

The driver of the tricycle that collided with a multi-cab-ambulance of Brgy. Felisa, where two persons were killed at about 9 p.m. Sunday in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City, is still at large, the police said.

Chief Insp. Luisito Acebuche of the Bacolod City Traffic Management Unit said they will coordinate with the Land Transportation Office to identify the owner and driver of the tricycle.

He said the driver is criminally liable for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, and the owner has administrative accountability over the accident.

The multi-cab, driven by Fernando Adrada, 47, of Purok Matinahuron, Brgy. Felisa, was bringing Anabelle Villanueva, 28, of Brgy. Felisa to the hospital because she had a miscarriage, while the tricycle was on its way to the barangay, when the accident happened at the Villa Maria Subdivision in Mansilingan, the police said.

Passengers Crisanto Pamplona, 38, of Zone 5, and Felix Serna, 66, Zone 8, in Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod, died while being treated at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital Monday.

Injured were Alfredo Roquez, 46; Alvin Latergo of Zone 5, Brgy. Handumanan; and Larry Valderama, 55, of Bangga Totong, Brgy. Felisa who have been treated at the CLMMRH. Villanueva’s husband, Roberto, and six other passengers of the tricycle were not hurt in the accident.*APN

Army camp home
to 50 convicts

The camp of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division in Jamindan, Capiz, is now the home of 50 inmates, as the Bureau of Corrections prepares them for transition to rejoining the mainstream society.

Military records show that some of the 50 inmates, who were transferred from the Leyte Regional Prison to the 3ID military camp, had been convicted of murder, homicide and robbery.

Major Gen. Jose Mabanta recently signed a memorandum of agreement, in behalf of 3ID, and Bureau of Corrections, for the transfer of the minimum security inmates from Leyte to the military camp, to decongest the BuCor.

Mabanta said the talents and skills of the inmates in carpentry, masonry and wood carving may also be utilized in transforming the military camp into an eco-tourism area.

The 50 inmates will serve the remaining period of their sentences and will continue to be guarded by BuCor guards in the military camp.

Mabanta said he believes the inmates are no longer escape risks because they are due for release.*GPB

12 sex workers rounded up

Twelve suspected commercial sex workers were rounded up by Station 1 policemen at the Bacolod City public plaza, and at Araneta-Gonzaga streets in the city at about  midnight yesterday.

Chief Insp. Adonis Rosales, Station 1 commander, said the women ranging in age from 18 to 37, whose names are being withheld by the DAILY STAR, are residents of Barangays 13, 16, 29, 30, 40, Estefania, Singcang-Airport and Banago, in Bacolod City.

Rosales said they advised the women to undergo examination at the City Health Office to determine if they have sexually-transmitted diseases.

He said they have intensified the campaign, not only against female commercial sex workers, but also against pimps and callboys, on orders of Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, director of the Bacolod City Police Office.

In May, De la Paz organized “Task Force Magdalena” to put an end to the rampant exploitation of women and minors. He said it has to start with the pimps and callboys, who make prostitution their business.

De la Paz, however, said they could no longer file charges against the sex workers, as vagrancy has been decriminalized.*RQB
