DURING BALDOZ, MACEDA VISIT
Workers’ group to push
for pro-labor measures

Former senator and now president of the National Trade Union Congress of the Philippines, Ernesto Herrera, and Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz will be in Bacolod City on Aug. 24 and 25 for the joint national convention of the National Congress of Unions in the Sugar Industry of the Philippines and its partners.

Hernane Braza, NCUSIP-Negros secretary general, yesterday said, they will lobby for the strengthening of the trade union rights, collective bargaining agreement, and the prevention of child labor in the province.

Braza said they also have to pass resolutions to address the problem of contractualization that this has become a regular practice of many employers.

They will also ask Baldoz to improve the implementation of the wage order and penalize employers who refuse to follow the order, he said.

Braza also said he hopes that Herrera, as the new TUCP president will revive the reputation of labor groups in the Congress as it has been marred by previous representatives who allegedly use the benefits and privileges of the workers for their personal gains and interests.

He said the convention is also an opportunity for them to air their concerns from Baldoz and Herrera.

The congress is in partnership with the Philippine Agricultural, Commercial, and Industrial Workers’ Union, Congress of Independent Organizations, and the Fraternal Labor Organization.*LTG
