Stingers eye
championship berth

Despite two collegiate basketball finals appearances in the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association meet, the University of St. La Salle Stingers  hope  to enter this season’s finals but as an underdog.

Stingers’ head coach Eugene Opu-an said that though, they entered the NOPSSCEA finals twice in two consecutive years, the loss of his key players had left some holes in their  team.

The team will be playing this season without Rogie Gelasan, Marloni Gonzales, Allen Delagente, Nicos Cuenca, Ram-Ram Islawa and Eman Badillo.

Jerald Abrot had a game-high 34 points, all in the second half, to lift Boston Finance past Watchmen Daily Journal in a closely battled Game 1 of the 1st LNA7/PROBAC Invitational Basketball Tournament played Tuesday at the West Negros University gym.

Boston will try to seal the best-of-three series tonight in Game 2 as they carry a one game advantage over Watchmen.

Watchmen took the lead in the opening quarter, 25-21, behind Ceasar Tan’s 11 points and Marion Upu-an’s 9 points as John Villaroman anchored Boston with 10 markers.
