P100,000 lost to
thieves in Bacolod

BY ADRIAN NEMES III

About P100,000 worth of jewelry and other items were reported missing after thieves ransacked a building at B.S. Aquino Drive and a residence in Brgy. 1, Bacolod City Sunday and Tuesday.

Alejandro Tupas, 68, a widower, of North drive, Brgy. 2, Bacolod, and the owner of Pearl Manor Banquet Skills Academy at B.S. Aquino Drive, told the police that his stay-in employees Orly Palona, Larry Tecson and Merlinda De Asis discovered several items missing from their building when they woke up at about 6 a.m. Sunday.

Tupas said the thieves took two flat screen computer monitors valued at P9,000, a computer central processing unit valued at P5,000 and a computer keyboard valued at 400.

Investigation showed that the suspects scaled the wall behind the building and opened a window that was not locked at the second floor to gain entrance.

There was no security guard in the building and only the three stay-in employees, were in it but they failed to see the suspects.

Meanwhile, Mary Grace Reyes, 37, a nurse, of Calamba-Lacson Street, Brgy. 1 told the police that her mother Florenda Yasa woke up at about 3 a.m. Tuesday to go to the toilet and noticed that the window at the kitchen was open.

When they checked their things, Reyes said they found out that three lady’s watches valued at P45,000, a pair of golden earrings valued at P20,000 and a swarovsky bracelet with undetermined market value gone.

She said the robbers also took a computer tablet and its accessories valued at P35,000, two cellular phones valued at P2,000 and a make-up kit valued at P2,000.

Police Officer 2 Christopher Profeta, case investigator, theorized that the suspects climbed the steel gate of the compound and gained entrance through the window at the kitchen that was not locked while the complainant and her family were sleeping.

Bacolod City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz reminded the public again yesterday to secure their houses and establishments as crimes against property are expected to rise because August is considered a lean month.

De la Paz ordered all station commanders in Bacolod last week to intensify their anti-criminality campaign.*APN
