Bing: Finish widening
of circumferential road

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia has requested the Department of Public Works and Highways to realign its funds to complete the widening of the Circumferential Road in Bacolod City rather than use them on asphalt overlays for existing national roads.

In his letter to acting DPWH-Bacolod District Engineer Reynaldo Venturina dated August 2, 2012, Leonardia said they have noticed that most of the identified projects of the DPWH are for asphalt overlays on existing national roads.

“However, we feel that some of these roads, like Lacson Street, do not need urgent repair/improvement,” Leonardia said.

Leonardia said they are strongly suggesting that DPWH realign these funds to complete the widening of the circumferential road as it is now experiencing heavy traffic every day.

“This is where we believe precious government funds can be put to better use,” he said.

Leonardia said the Circumferential Road has become very busy since it is a main artery and it needs to be widened into four lanes. The part being widened in front of the Bacolod Government Center is only up to the Espinos Village in Taculing, he pointed out.

Considering the traffic volume, and considering that Bacolod City is fast growing, the DPWH should widen the Circumferential Road into four lanes, Leonardia added.

Venturina had furnished Leonardia a copy of his Proposed Infrastructure Projects for the year 2013 before the mayor left for Bangkok last week.*CGS
