Flexi-time, work schemes
sought for flood-hit areas

The Associated Labor Unions-TUCP yesterday urged the government and private employers in calamity-stricken provinces to momentarily impose “flexi-time and flexi-work” arrangements.

This is intended to enable workers to cope with the massive displacements caused by flooding and landslides, a press release from the group said.

Flexi-time and or flexi-work is a working arrangement practice by employers in several countries to allow solo or both parents to attend to their calamity situations, personal needs, or emergency events without neglecting work duties and responsibilities, the press release said.

It also means allowing their staffs to work at their preferred place, it added.

Gerard Seno, ALU National executive vice president, said the amount of working hours may vary from day to day or week to week. However, workers must reach a specified working time over a set period.

Private and public employees work at least an average of 40 hours a week. With flexitime and or flexi-work arrangement, an employee may report to office from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m., or from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., or 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., the press release said.*
