Voter registration
on holidays, too

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The Commission on Elections in Bacolod City will continue the registration of voters during the holidays and has scheduled satellite registration for Persons with Disabilities and inmates of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology this month.

Bacolod Election Officer Mavil Majarucon–Sia said yesterday that there will be a satellite registration of voters on tomorrow at the North Wing of SM City-Bacolod in celebration of the National PWD (Persons with Disability) Registration Day pursuant to Resolution 9485.

The registration will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., she said.

Majarucon-Sia said there will also be a satellite registration of voters at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Handumanan on August 20 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in relation to the detainee voting. This will be for both female and male inmates, she said.

Registration of voters is ongoing at the Bacolod Comelec Office from Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. including holidays, which means that they will be open on August 20, 21 and 27, Majarucon-Sia said.

Registration will be temporarily suspended on October 1 to 5 to give way to the filing of Certificates of Candidacy, she said.

Majarucon-Sia is reminding the public to register early and not wait for the October 31 deadline.

She said those who will turn 18 years old on the day of election, or before the election on May 13, 2013, can already register. All they have to do is bring their ID and birth certificate to prove that, on the day of election, he/she is already 18 years old, she said.

Majarucon-Sia said that since October is MassKara Festival time, definitely there will be many people, and she anticipates that many will also flock to the COMELEC Office to register before the October 31 deadline and they might have a problem with crowd control.

So, as much as possible, they should not wait for October to register, she added.

Meanwhile, Majarucon-Sia said the campaign period is from January 13, 2013 to June 12. For local candidates, the campaign will be from March 21 up to May 11, she said.

During the last elections, the COMELEC had decided that there should be no premature campaigning, so candidates should not put the word “vote (for this position)” in their advertisements.*CGS
