74-year-old burned to death
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A septuagenarian woman was trapped and burned to death, when her residence in Brgy. Salong, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, was gutted by fire Tuesday, the Bureau of Fire and Protection reported yesterday.

Fire Officer 2 Joel Agustin Mesajon identified the victim as Felicidad Gustilo,74, who suffered third degree burns, that caused her death.

BFP and police reports said her charred body was found at the door of her room, where the fire is believed to have originated.

The fire was reportedly triggered by a lighted candle, which the victim had been using to illuminate the house, the BFP report added.

Estimated damage was placed by Fire Investigator Lemuel Gicos at P100,000. The fire was put out 30 minutes after by BFP firefighters, assisted by 911 Rescue Group members and local policemen.

The next day, fire also broke out in Sitio Kahilwayan, in Brgy. Gargato, Hinigaran, that razed to the ground two houses owned by Jenelyn Develles and Malanie Palomata, a police report said.

BFP and police investigations showed that the fire was caused by electrical system overload. Damage was estimated at P50,000. No one was reported injured in the fire, that was also put out by BFP firefighters.*GPB
