Ceres team posts win
in SJI Alumni cagefest

Ceres Pasalubong 2006-07 debuted with a bang as it registered an 86-61 win against Raga Raga Inc. 2003-05, while New Energy Mktg./Shakey’s notched its second victory with an 84-69 domination of Waterfull/Fyr Fyter, in Tuesday night’s game of the 5th SJI Alumni Basketball Friendship Cup at the Msgr. John B. Liu Activities Center.

Waterfull surprised Shakey’s in the first quarter as it took a 28-17 lead led by Alex Fernandez with 14 points and Michael Ang’s six points, even as Charles Del Castillo had seven points for Shakey’s.

A 10-0 blast at the start of the second quarter by New Energy Marketing cut the lead to a point, but Waterfull’s good passing plays resulted in several easy basket for Tubby Villanueva, who scored seven points, to keep his team on top at 42-39 by halftime.

But the second half was another story as the offense of Shakey’s went into high gear, outscoring Celcor 45-27 as Danty Ma scored 10 points and Del Castillo adding eight points.

Michael Ang was the lone brightspot for Waterfull as he sunk four treys for 12 points, but lack the support from his teammates.

Del Castillo paced New Energy with 15 points, Luigi Coo added 13, Mark Coo shot 10 points. Allen Dionela made 9, and Ralph Geraldoy had 7 points.

Ang finished with 18 points, Monroe Chua and Tubby Villanueva drilled 8 points each.

In the second game, Martin Jalandoni and Alvin Dionela combined for 17 points as Ceres moved ahead to 22-11 in the first quarter.

The trio of Brian Coo, Raymund Lacson and Axel Yao conspired for 21 points as the lead ballooned to 45-19.

Raga made headway in the third quarter as the team scored 32 points led by the quartet of Marco Ongsingco, Michael Sian, Mark Vasquez and Joel Bacabac as they drew closer at 63-51.

But Raga’s offense went south in the payoff quarter as they can only score 10 points, while Ceres drew its offense from Raymund Lacson with 8 points, Dionela and Coo with 4 points apiece.

Lacson had a game-high 21 points, Yao scored 13, Coo and Dionela hit 12 points and piece and Jalandoni shot 11 points.

Vasquez made 13 points in a losing effort backstopped by Ongsinco and Sian with 11 points each and Bacabac 10 points.*NAB
