Electric MassKara tilts named

Fifteen Bacolod barangays are participating in the 2012 MassKara Festival street and arena dancing competition, and 10 are joining the electric MassKara performing float contest, a press release from organizers said.

Streetdance committee chairman Rudy Reveche said the contingents for the streetdance barangay category, scheduled on October 21, are Brgys. 1, 3, 6, 11, 16, 17, 21, 26, 29, 32, 37, 39, Alijis, Cabug, and Felisa. For the electric MassKara float competition slated Oct. 19, the contingents are Brgys. 2, 7, 23, 30, 33, 35, 38, 40, Taculing, and Tangub.

Festival director Eli Tajanlangit said the electric MassKara will use live music, while those for the streetdance barangay and school categories will come from winners of the “MusiKara: The Search for the 2012 MassKara Festival Music” competition, the press release also said.

The winners will be known on September 7 during the final performance night at the Bacolod Government Center, the press release added.*

Rainbow mission held

Around 300 adults and children benefited from the free medical, sight and dental mission jointly conducted by the Negros Occidental Rainbow Foundation Inc., led by Agnes Cuenca, and the Bacolod City Sampaguita Lions Club, headed by Rebecca Filasol, in the towns of Isabela and Hinigaran in Negros Occidental recently, a press release from the group said.

The 303rd Brigade, Philippine Army of Camp Nelson Gerona in Minoyan Murcia, under Col. Oscar Lactao, also served 60 adults and children with their dental needs, and more than 200 persons availed of free eye consultations, eyeglasses and free medicines, the press release said.

A lecture on cleanliness, good grooming and other health tips was also conducted during the activity that was attended by Rainbow members Marilou Aguirre, Anamer Gatuslao, Titong Henares, Cely Hugo, Ilde Guerrero, Celia Ferrer, Emma Lipa, Betty Jarder, Cion Ruiz, Manny Castro, Victor Guerrero, and Babes Sola, the press release also said.

The Sampaguita Lions in attendance were Jo Hilado, Babes Sola, Linda Yulo and Terry Falsis, the press release added.*

Home for the Blind turns 44

Thirty-four families from the Home For The Blind in Brgy Mansilingan, Bacolod City celebrated their 44th anniversary recently with the Negros Occidental Lions Club, a press release from the city said.

Host Lions Club president Archie Graciano and Lions vice governor Arci Regalado, executive assistant Rogelio Giganan, dentist Elna Mercado and retired St. Benilde La Salle Integrated principal Norma Tagle attended the occasion with the theme “Towards Peaceful Loving and a Responsible Family.”

Giganan, who served as guest speaker on behalf of Mayor Evelio Leonardia, cited the Lions and the city’s assistance to the Home located on a 1.2-hectare property.

He said the city, through the Department of Social Services Division, regularly grants the Home P12,500 as financial assistance, and Lions Club members regularly visit the residents and their families, the press release also said.

The parents at the home are totally blind, six of the children are cross-eyed, and the rest are partially blind. The grown-up, partially blind sons and daughters work as sales representatives in various establishments, and those still studying are enrolled at the Mansilingan elementary and high schools, the press release said.

Meanwhile, a meeting will be held at the Bacolod Government Center tomorrow on the proposal to qualify families in the Home for relocation, the press release added.*

Healing mass
slated tomorrow

Healing priest, Fr. Joey Faller, from the Kamay ni Hesus Healing Church in Lucban, Quezon Province, will celebrate the 12 noon mass at the Shrine of St. Therese of the Child Jesus in Newport Boulevard, Pasay City tomorrow, a press release from his group said.

Faller, who will also lead healing service later, has devoted his life to serving God and sharing the gift of healing to many, first ministering to his parishioners in the early 1990’s, many of them claimed to have been cured through him, the press release said.

On April 8, 1994 his small and index fingers were damaged and he noticed that they resembled the hands of the image of the young Jesus, the Sto. Niño, and that of the risen Christ. This affirmed his belief that his ability to heal was a gift from God, the press release also said.

Faller formed the Kamay ni Hesus Ministry Foundation to raise funds for the construction of a church and a healing and renewal center for his diocese, the Diocese of Lucena.

He travels all over the country and the world to spread the word of God and to inspire people with his extraordinary and precious gift, the press release also said.
