Pangilinan helps GK Village
OF HUA MING

Sen. Francis Pangilinan has released P500,000 for the further development of the Msgr. John Liu and Msgr. John Su Handumanan Sang Hua Ming GK Village in Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod City, a press release from St. John’s Institute Alumni Association said.

The budget taken from the senator’s Priority Development Assistance Fund and released through the office of the local government unit of Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod City, will be used to build six more houses, the press release said.

William Chua, Batch ‘81 of St. John’s Institute Alumni Association thanked the senator for his assistance in improving the community. The amount is a big help in realizing the vision of making the village truly productive and progressive, he added.

Pangilingan said he believes in the efforts of Gawad Kalinga, as it not only builds better physical shelter structures for the poor, but they also enjoin beneficiaries to personally work on building their houses so that there is a sense of ownership and dignity. These aspects should be integral in building every home, the press release said.

GK Committee Chairman Wilford Sy said the village now has 52 houses and features a 2-classroom school building donated by Dr. Lucio Tan and a multi-purpose center built through the PDAF assistance of former Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri.*
