Tanod killed
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A barangay tanod was gunned down allegedly by his colleague Sunday night at De Leon Street, Brgy. 2 poblacion, Victorias City, that may have been triggered by a misunderstanding, police said yesterday.

The victim, identified as Jericho Galeno, 22, a tanod member of Brgy. 2, succumbed to three gunshot wounds, Supt. Alexander Munoz, Victorias police chief, said.

Munoz said the suspect, identified as Ramil Nabus, also a tanod member of Brgy. 21 in Victorias City, who hide in a sugarcane field for several hours, gave himself up to the police yesterday.

However, the .45 caliber pistol, allegedly used by Nabus in the shooting was nowhere to be found, the Victorias police also said.

Two slugs and three empty shells of .45 caliber pistol were recovered by the police at the crime scene.

Munoz said Nabus shot first at Galeno, who allegedly tried to get a samurai.

Meanwhile, a 50-year-old woman died, while her companion was hurt, when the Suzuki Carry van they were riding slammed into a coconut tree Saturday at Hacienda Bacsay in Brgy. Robles, La Castellana.

The fatality was identified by the police as Febie Baja, 50. Her companion, Noeme Maligmat, 62, survived the accident. Both are residents of Brgy. Panubigan, Canlaon City, Negros Oriental.

Investigations of the La Castellana police showed that Celerino Baja Jr. had lost control of the van he was driving.

Febie was declared dead on arrival at the Enrico Roa Elumba Clinic in La Castellana, due to head injuries, while Maligmat is now being treated at a private hospital in Bacolod City. * GPB
