‘peddler’ arrested
Another suspected marijuana peddler was arrested by the police in a buy-bust operation yesterday in Brgy. IV, Silay City, Negros Occidental.
Supt. Rosauro Francisco, Silay police chief, identified the suspect as Kenneth Dioneo, 25, who was nabbed by a team of anti-narcotics operatives, headed by Senior Insp. Vanessa Gayle Dura-Sonoy.
The police seized an undetermined quantity of suspected dried marijuana leaves, P384 in cash believed to be proceeds from the sale of the prohibited drug, a Samsung Galaxy cellular phone, and the P150 marked money used, Francisco added.
Dioneo joined Rigor Capana, 18, who was arrested Thursday in Silay City, for allegedly selling marijuana cigarets to students, at the police lock-up cell.
Charges for illegal possession of drugs are being readied against Dioneo and Capana, the police said.*GPB back

2 men nabbed for
theft of trisikad
Two men were arrested by Station 9 policemen in Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod City, at about 3 p.m. Monday, after they were reported to have stolen a trisikad parked at the city’s downtown area.
Station 9 commander, Chief Insp. Placido Gentoleo, identified those arrested as Larry Hermoso, 38, of Purok Neptune, Brgy. Singcang-Airport, and Joevani Mendoza, 39, of Purok Kaisahan, Sum-ag, Bacolod.
Complainant Willie Olita, 36, of Purok Ilang-Ilang, Brgy. 15, Bacolod, told the police that he left his red trisikad, valued at P6,000, at Rosario-Gatuslao streets at about 10 a.m. Monday, and found it gone later.
Olita said he learned that the suspects brought his trisikad to Sum-ag, and that prompted him to seek police assistance, Gentoleo said.
Hermoso and Mendoza have been endorsed by Station 9 policemen, led by Police Officer 3 Emman Anacleto, to Police Station 1, as Olita has yet to decide if he will press theft charges against them.*APN back

Kagawad shot dead
ZAMBOANGA CITY – A barangay kagawad was shot dead by two men riding in tandem in a motorcycle at around 9:20 a.m. yesterday in front of a school in Barangay Divisoria, in the city, the police said.
The police said Into Hamjalul, 42, the number 3 kagawad of Brgy. Buenavista, died on the spot due to three bullet wounds.
Investigation showed that Hamjalul was driving his motorcycle at the Maria Clara Lobregat highway on the way to the city proper when two men riding in tandem on another motorcycle got abreast and shot him.
The police said they are still trying to determine the motive for the killing and identify the suspects.
Meanwhile, two motorcycle-riding men lobbed an improvised explosive device in front of a restaurant in Isabela City, Basilan, on Monday.
No one was hurt and the explosion caused minor damage to JJ Twins Restaurant, the Basilan Police Provincial Office said, adding that extortion could have been the motive for the bombing.
Police recovered Trinitrotoluene residue, parts of a cellular phone, metal pellets, one-inch concrete nails and fragments of a tin can, at the explosion site.*PNA back
