Road rerouting ok’d,
Sayson says
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said the city has been granted permission by the Gonzaga family to use the road behind the Bacolod City Government Center temporarily as an alternative route for private vehicles heading towards the east side of Bacolod, while road repairs are ongoing at the Circumferential Road.

Sayson said the road is a short-cut to the Villa Angela Subdivision. and the City Engineer’s Office has been asked to check its condition.

Sayson said Bacolod City Police Traffic Management Unit head, Chief Insp. Luisito Acebuche, had requested for a temporary rerouting scheme from the portion of the Circumferential Road that goes by the BCGC, that is under reconstruction by the Department of Public Works and Highway, to ease the traffic congestion in the area.

Vehicles coming from the northern portion of the Circumferential Road need to turn right at Burgos Street from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. but trucks will be banned from entering the area at these times.

As for vehicles coming from the southern part of the Circumferential Road, they will follow a one-way scheme to avoid further traffic congestion at the areas being repaired, he said.

Sayson said the DPWH should have informed the city before it started the reconstruction of the road, so they could then have deployed traffic personnel and prevented the traffic problems that have inconvenienced motorists in the area.

They have also requested the DPWH to finish the reconstruction before the start of the milling season in September.

However, Acebuche said they expect the repair of the Circumferential Road to take more than three months since two different construction firms are handling the project.

Ten traffic enforcers are being assigned in the area until its repair is finished, he said.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the road behind the government center was also opened during the MassKara Festival and the BacoLaodiat Festival. Many people are not aware of it but it could be a big help to the traffic situation in the area during such events, he said.

Leonardia said he has also asked the DPWH Bacolod District Engineer Rey Venturina to finish the road widening project before the MassKara Festival in October.*CGS
