PNP probes cops
linked to gambling

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office is investigating allegations that three policemen are linked to illegal gambling.

Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, NOPPO officer-in-charge, yesterday said that if evidence warrants, charges will be filed against the three policemen. However, their identities, are being withheld, pending investigations of the claims, he said.

Region 6 police director Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz had vowed on Monday to remove “scalawags” from the Philippine National Police. He said PNP personnel who commit unlawful actions will be justly punished or sanctioned, if proven to have committed offenses.

Several illegal gambling outfits were reported to have been operating in Negros Occidental, police records show.

Cruz said impartial and swift justice will always be their priority in dealing with every issue that confronts the PNP.

Governor Alfredo Maranon Jr. ordered Lirazan to address the proliferation of illegal gambling and prohibited drugs, especially in northern Negros, when he assumed as officer-in-charge of NOPPO last month.* GPB
