Silay beneficiaries
receive swine

Two barangays in Silay City yesterday received swine for fattening through the Negros First Animal Dispersal of Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., Provincial Veterinary Office livestock and dispersal coordinator, Cathyrine Narez said.

The project aims to have beneficiaries acquire livestock animals for additional family income, Narez said.

The beneficiaries from barangays 4 and 5 received 34 swine for fattening, Narez said.

The recipients were also trained in basic swine management and animal health care and how to raise the animals and prevent mortality.

Narez also reminded all recipients to give back the number of animals dispersed to them so the PVO can give them certificates of ownership. She pointed out that the dispersal program is not a dole-out project.

Meanwhile, the PVO will give six sets of egg machines to a group of pastors in Toboso town and two rebel returnees from Sagay City.

Each egg machine comes with 48 heads of ready-to-lay pullets with feeder, waterer, and 25 kilos of feeds, Narez also said.

She also said those who want to avail of the dispersal program can visit their local and city veterinary officer or call the PVO for the requirements and processes.

Narez said the PVO has already dispersed more than 17,000 farm animals in the first half of 2012 and they are expecting to double the number if more beneficiaries will apply.

She added that they helped beneficiaries acquire additional income for their families and some have started breeding their own farm animals.*LTG
