Cops urge ‘rape’ victim to
formalize complaint
A teenager from Manila, who reported to the Bacolod police Tuesday that the uncle of her boyfriend raped her in a barangay in Bacolod Sunday, failed to return to the Women and Children’s Complaints Desk to file a formal charge against the suspect.
WCCD chief, Insp. Jovy Cabcaban, said yesterday that they advised the victim, 18, to temporarily stay at the Balay Pasilungan at the Bacolod police headquarters, while the case against the suspect is being processed.
The victim, however sought instead the help of Gabriela-Negros, Cabcaban said.
About a week ago, the teenager also complained that her employer committed lascivious acts but the case was also not pursued, Cabcaban said, adding that they found inconsistencies in the statements of the victim.
When she sought police help, the victim said she is 18 years old, but in her radio and television interviews, she claimed to be only 16, Cabcaban added.
She also denied media reports (not from the DAILY STAR) that the WCCD did not entertain her complaints.
BCPO director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, meanwhile, said he will investigate the claim of the victim that she was ridiculed by two policemen when she went to the police headquarters on Sunday.
De la Paz said the victim should identify the policemen so appropriate actions can be taken against them.*APN back
