UNO-R booters aim for
NOPSSCEA title

The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos football squad hopes to land in the finals once again when the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association competition opens next month.

Placing second to the University of St. La Salle in last year’s season, Rams head coach Carlo Torbela said he is 70 percent sure of their chances to be in the finals. UNO-R also finished first runner-up in the national University Games in Roxas City last year after bowing to De La Salle University.

“We consider the University of St. La Salle Stingers as  still the strongest team in the league but we will challenge them,” Torbela said.

Rams lost to the Stingers in last year’s finals, 3-0, with all goals scored by striker Joshua Beloya.

The UNO-Rians last won the title in 2010 by beating West Negros University Mustangs, 3-1.

“I find my team this season stronger than last year despite the number of rookies in my lineup,” said Torbela.

The team is composed of: keepers Jan Ervin Longno and Gino Sedurifa; forwards Luis Christian Clauor, Luther Silava, Randy Temana, Dari Poderoso Jr., Michael Cornel and Michael Cornel; midfielders Joel Villacoquer, Ernest Paul Anceta, Paul Alfred Tenebroso, Joey Ivan Seva and John Michael Liza; and defenders Rodgie Lumawag, John Raymund Ancheta, Archie Nemenzo, Marvic Gancita, Eron Mark Jareño, East Tristan Encabo and Hargie Bagioro.*NAB
