Cop charged for murder
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

A policeman was charged with murder and frustrated murder before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday by his fellow cops of Station 8, for allegedly shooting dead a driver and injuring his cousin in Brgy. Tangub in the city Sunday.

Charged was Police Officer 3 Kenneth Cerbo of Calinog town, Iloilo and assigned at the Bingawan Municipal Police Station in the same province, City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz said.

De la Paz said they filed murder charges against Cerbo because their investigation showed that he had shot without provocation Greggy Alfonso, 23, and his cousin Rodolfo Alfonso, 25, both of Purok San Roque in Brgy. Tangub while they were buying ice from his store at about 10 p.m. Sunday.

Greggy succumbed to a gunshot wound on the chest, while Rodolfo, who was hit in the abdomen, is still being treated at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

In a text message to his station commander, Senior Insp. Johnny Tumambing, Cerbo, said he shot the victims because one of them had an improvised shotgun and attempted to shoot him.

However, De la Paz said no firearms were recovered from the Alfonsos and the claims of Cerbo were just alibis.

The Bacolod City Police will forward the case folder of Cerbo to the Police Regional office-6, for the pre-charge evaluation for his administrative liability.

De la Paz said the family of the victims may also file administrative complaints against Cerbo at other law enforcement governing bodies if they want to, but if they want to let PRO-6 handle the case, they will need to sign an affidavit of non-forum shopping.

As of yesterday, Cerbo remained at large but De la Paz said that, whether he shows up or not, they will apprehend him once the arrest warrant is out.

ALSO CHARGED

Meanwhile, Station 6 policemen also filed murder charges before the Bacolod CPO Tuesday against three persons, one of them a minor, in connection with the fatal stabbing of a caregiver in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod on Friday last week.

Chief Insp. Noel Polines, commander of Police Station 6, identified those who are charged as Gerald Condeza, “alias Jimboy”, 23, of Fortune Towne Subdivision, J-Boy Guillermo, of Purok Mauswagon in Brgy. Taculing, and a 17-year old, whose name is being withheld, all of Bacolod City.

Condeza and the minor, who surrendered Sunday are now in the custody of Police Station 6 and of the Social Development Center, respectively, Guillermo is still at large, Polines said.

The three are suspects in the killing of Raymund Aliling, 26, of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, who was an in-house caregiver of the Eusebio family at Pleasantville Subdivision, Taculing.

The victim was found dead with multiple stab wounds beside the road in Purok Masagana, Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod, at about 1:30 a.m. Friday. He was last seen at the Pablo O Torre Memorial Hospital, where his employer was confined.

A witness told the police he saw the suspects approach and invite Aliling, who was walking at the road in Purok Masagana, to a birthday party nearby.*APN
