Bamboo forum set Sept.

The Bamboo Industry Development Council will hold a forum in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental next month to promote bamboo as good source of livelihood and as means to mitigate the impacts of climate change, government press release said.

The forum, that aims to gather stakeholders of the industry in the province and the region, will be spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry. DTI pushed for the creation of the Council in Negros Oriental in compliance with Executive Order 189, that seeks to strengthen the bamboo industry, the press release also said.

DTI provincial director Javier Fortunato said bamboo experts have been invited to discuss in the forum the state of the industry, its value chain and directions. The activity will also include resource mapping, product development and technology transfer, and capability building-training.

The Council is composed of representatives from the DTI, departments of Environment and Natural Resources, Agriculture, Education, Science and Technology, Labor and Employment, the Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce Inc., the Philippine Bamboo Foundation Inc., and the Buglas Bamboo Institute, the press release added.*
