Agriculture trainee
drowns in hotel pool

BY ADRIAN NEMES III
A seminar participant drowned at the swimming pool of the Bacolod Pavillon Resort Hotel and Restaurant at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

The fatality was identified by case investigator Senior Police Officer 1 Dante Escorpion as Reniel Centino, 23, of Brgy. Alijis, Valladolid town, Negros Occidental.

Centino’s co-participant Claver Fernandez of Brgy. Ayungon, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental said they decided to swim after having a drink. However, a few minutes later, they noticed Centino was no longer seen in the pool.

Fernandez said they saw Centino’s silhouette under water prompting them to seek the help of patrol 117. Centino was brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Centino was attending three day-training on Organic Agriculture for young farmers and 4H Club leaders, of which he is a member, that started on Wednesday sponsored by the Agricultural Training Institute and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist.

Centino’s mother Lorna, 51, said she is not blaming anyone for the death of her son but is asking the management of the hotel to financially help them in his funeral.

The management of the hotel, the OPA and the ATI already pledged help to the family.*APN
