BIR-Dumaguete intensifies
collection of P1.452B goal
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Bureau of Internal Revenue District Office 79-Dumaguete is urging taxpayers in the city, and the provinces of Negros Oriental and Siquijor, to pay their taxes on time to avoid penalty, and to help BIR reach its collection goal of P1.452 billion for 2012.

BIR-RDO 79 chief Cresencio Agad said the performance rating of the Bureau from January to July this year has cumulatively exceeded its target by P14 million, or P834 million collection against its target of 820 million.

He said that August is critical as it has the biggest monthly collection target at P154 million. Agad said if the goal is met or surpassed, the BIR RDO-79 will be able to reach or exceed its 2012 goal.

Diocese prepares for new
version of Roman Missal
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Diocese of Dumaguete in Negros Oriental is gearing for the implementation of the new English translation of the Roman Missal on December 2, 2012.

Msgr. Gamaliel Tulabing, Diocesan administrator, said he hopes there will be little or no difficulty for Catholics to adjust to the new English translation of the Mass, that was approved by the Vatican last year and supposed to be implemented on the first Sunday of Advent in 2011.

But the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines had requested for a one-year grace period to allow time to catechize and educate the faithful before the new version of Roman Missal takes effect, he said.

RP journalists protest pace
of massacre trial

MANILA- Philippine journalists and activists gathered for an overnight vigil late yesterday, criticizing the slow pace of the trial of a massacre that left 57 people including journalists dead.

The protesters, who assembled at a human rights monument in Manila, also assailed President Benigno Aquino for the continued spate of killings of media workers despite his promises to crack down on such crimes.

About 150 people arrived for a ceremony marking the 1,000th day since the massacre -- allegedly by a powerful political clan -- said organizer Sonny Fernandez. Thirty-two journalists were among the dead.
