Escalante pugs rule boxing tilt

Escalante City's boxing program is on the upswing as 10 of its boxers won gold medals to capture the overall championship in the 2 nd . Rep. Jules Ledesma Boxing Cup that ended yesterday at Calatrava Covered Gym.

The 10-gold medal haul of Escalante were delivered by Regie Bustillo, Junel Orbiso, John Mahinay, James Mahinay, Greg Pableo, Richard Lapac, Benjie Bunas, Jojo Bulanon, Ali Agupasa, and Sarah Jean Mag-asara.

Bustillo won on points against Chivas Pabalate of host Calatrava in the 34 kgs., while Orbiso prevailed over Mel Christian Indico of Don Salvador Benedicto in 42 kgs. (14-16 years old).

Mahinay remained dominant in his third encounter against Jason Abella of San Carlos City in the 46 kgs. (elite 19-23 years old), while his younger brother James turned back Jingle Brian Hilarso of the host town in the 49 kgs.

Pableo won his fight against Remart De la Peña of DSB in 26 kgs. as Lapac did the same in his battle against John Rey Aledon of San Carlos in 30 kgs.

Bunas defeated Elmar Duoma of DSB in 32 kgs. as Bulanon stopped Teliboy Canciller Jr., another DSB pug, in the second round of the 49 kgs.

Agupasa triumphed against JP Oro in 52 kgs., as Mag-asara reigned in women's 49 kgs. against Fredilyn Mantalaya of San Carlos City .

Escalante City also won two silver medals and received a cash prize of P5, 000 from Rep. Jules Ledesma and Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. for the overall championship.

Don Salvador Benedicto collected six gold and 7 silver medals to finish first runner-up while San Carlos City had 4 gold and eight silver medals to pick up the second runner-up honors.*NAB
