team stays intact

The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos chess team remains the squad to beat when the 32 nd Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational meet opens on September 14.

Sweeping the college competition last year, the UNO-R men and women's teams are getting ready for this year's season, with the women's side staying intact while the men's group has a new member.

The trio of Western Visayas PRISAA veterans Christine Cabrales, Geveve Gallano, and Vaneza Galunan will be defending their crown against last year's first runner-up University of St. La Salle and second runner-up West Negros University .

Escalante pugs rule boxing tilt

Escalante City's boxing program is on the upswing as 10 of its boxers won gold medals to capture the overall championship in the 2 nd . Rep. Jules Ledesma Boxing Cup that ended yesterday at Calatrava Covered Gym.

The 10-gold medal haul of Escalante were delivered by Regie Bustillo, Junel Orbiso, John Mahinay, James Mahinay, Greg Pableo, Richard Lapac, Benjie Bunas, Jojo Bulanon, Ali Agupasa, and Sarah Jean Mag-asara.

Bustillo won on points against Chivas Pabalate of host Calatrava in the 34 kgs., while Orbiso prevailed over Mel Christian Indico of Don Salvador Benedicto in 42 kgs. (14-16 years old).

KMH ousts NPBC
from No. 1 spot

Kami Mga Hubin was No. 1 in the premiere division, as NPBC/RJ Stars anchorman Willy Mahilum set a new record in the individual highest single and triple category in 19 th Sharp Friendship Cup Open Trio Bowling Tournament at the New Top's Millennium Plaza Alley in Bacolod City.

St. Joseph Alumni Association Team I and Davies Fusion led the men's non-rated and women's division.

With two more rounds left, the KMH Team of Robbie Elegado had a tournament high 774 points on the 10 th round to dislodge NPBC/RJ Stars of Steve Po.
