Ceres unbeaten
in SJI cagefest

Ceres Pasalubong prevailed over New Energy Mktg./Shakey's, 88-77, in the battle of unbeaten teams, while Jollibee/Terra Dolce 1990-92 bounced back with a resounding 107-86 victory against Petron 2001/02/12 in the 5th SJI Alumni Basketball Friendship Cup at the Msgr. John B. Liu Activity Center.

Alvin Dionela paced Ceres with 21 points and led four other Ceres teammates who scored in double figures with Renz Mendoza and Raymund Lacson scoring 14 points each, Brian Coo with 11, and Bren Tajonera with 10 points.

New Energy held a slim 20-18 opening quarter lead as Mark Coo and Luigi Coo combined for 16 points, while Renz Mendoza delivered eight points for Ceres.

Ceres outscored New Energy in the next two quarters, 46-25, as the trio of Lacson scored 11, Brian Coo with nine, and Dionela sunk two triples. Charles Del Castillo scored eight points for Shakey's but lack the scoring support from his teammates.

A 32-point fourth quarter explosion from New Energy did not help their cause as Ceres countered with a balanced offensive led by Dionela with 10 points to ice the game for Ceres.

Meanwhile, Jollibee/Terra Dolce dominated the three quarters of the game against Petron for a commanding 91- 62 lead going into the payoff period.

Bol Manaloto paced the team with 34 points as teammates Peewee Demonteverde scored 24, Glenn Ortaliz with 16, and Dominic Ciocon with 10 points.

Marcelino Tan led Petron with 20 points, Joshua Co shot 15, and Jan Jan Guevarra picked up 13 points.*NAB
