USLS spikers aspire to
continue win streak

The University of St. La Salle holds the distinction of having the longest reign in Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural and Educational Association women's volleyball with a total of 22 titles tucked under its belt.

This year's the school hopes to continue the winning streak as the NOPSSCEA competition starts next month, USLS Varsity Sports Office director Malot Lozada said.

But the defending champion tag does not count when the competition starts as all teams are determined to win, she added.

Team 1 beats Team 3 in
BTTHS basketball

Executing once again their running game, almost to perfection, Team 1 Willtrade/Phoenix blew away Team 3 Chowking, 108-61, while Team 9 Avenue Site edged Team Davies Paints, 76–75, in the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Alumni Basketball Tournament, over the weekend at the Po Hang Gym.

Also registering a victory was coach Bobby Te's juniors varsity squad against Team 10, 94-70.

In routing Team 3, the powerhouse cast of Batch 81 and 91, who compose Team 1, ruled the game starting with a 30-6 blow out in the first quarter led by Bong Lopez, Siopao Dechavez, Rommel Ting and Doc Antipuesto.

Ceres unbeaten
in SJI cagefest

Ceres Pasalubong prevailed over New Energy Mktg./Shakey's, 88-77, in the battle of unbeaten teams, while Jollibee/Terra Dolce 1990-92 bounced back with a resounding 107-86 victory against Petron 2001/02/12 in the 5th SJI Alumni Basketball Friendship Cup at the Msgr. John B. Liu Activity Center.

Alvin Dionela paced Ceres with 21 points and led four other Ceres teammates who scored in double figures with Renz Mendoza and Raymund Lacson scoring 14 points each, Brian Coo with 11, and Bren Tajonera with 10 points.

New Energy held a slim 20-18 opening quarter lead as Mark Coo and Luigi Coo combined for 16 points, while Renz Mendoza delivered eight points for Ceres.
