RPA-ABB member admits
slay of ‘rebel’ in Tanjay
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

A member of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade who shot dead his neighbor Monday, was surrendered by his commander to the Tanjay City Police Station in Negros Oriental yesterday.

The Tanjay police identified the suspect as Erwin Tano Bajamonde, 47, of Sitio Candanque, Barangay Azagra, Tanjay, who first surrendered to RPA-ABB commander Arnel Dagodog, and was later brought to the police station.

The police said the fatality, William Candelario Garnica, “alias Ka Wamar”, died of a single gunshot wound to the head apparently inflicted at close range, investigation showed.

Bajamonde, who claimed to be the assistant leader of RPA-ABB Platoon 2, said he killed Garnica, who, he said was a member of the New People’s Army, to avenge the death of his older brother, Jose, in Sitio Avocado, Barangay Talalak, Sta. Catalina town, Negros Oriental, in 1995.

He said Garnica and other rebels mauled and killed his brother on suspicion that he was a military sympathizer and informant.

Bajamonde turned over to the police his .45 caliber pistol Colt MK IV series, 12 rounds of live ammunition and two magazine clips. He said the gun was issued to him by the RPA-ABB, and was one of the firearms inventoried recently by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, as part of the ongoing peace talks with the Philippine government, the police added.

Murder raps will be filed against him today after Edil Toroy Tinghil, 33, the live-in partner of Garnica, and some witnesses appeared at the Tanjay police station yesterday to execute their affidavits.*JFP
