The capital city of Negros Oriental has a new tourism slogan: “Dumaguete is simply the place to be”.
Woodrow Maquiling Jr. of the City Tourism Office, said that with the slogan, the CTO will intensify its campaign to lure more domestic and foreign visitors to Dumaguete. This was after the slight decrease in tourist arrivals in the first two quarters of 2012, at 110,146. Last year, CTO recorded 207,971 visitors, both local and foreign, Maquiling added.
He said there is need to strengthen the monitoring of major entry and exit points, like airports and seaports, for a more accurate data collection. There are 60 accommodation establishments in Dumaguete, but only Bethel Guesthouse has been accredited by the Department of Tourism.
The city generated more than P15 million in tourism-related earnings last year. From January to August this year, incomes already reached about P13.8 million as per reports of tourism-related restaurants and travel and tour operators, Maquiling added.*JG
