The remaining suspect in the robbery of seven teachers of the Coyaoyao Elementary School in Brgy. Inolingan, Moises Padilla town, on Aug. 15 gave himself up to a barangay official, Monday.
Remy Escano, 22, of Sitio Cuyaoyao, surrendered to Quintin Remo barangay captain Roger Caminade, after a series of negotiations with his family, Senior Inspector Robert Mansueto, Moises Padilla police chief said.
Escano, who was immediately fetched by the police and troopers of the 11th Infantry Battalion, from Brgy. Quintin Remo in Moises Padilla, is now in jail, and robbery charges will be filed against him today, Mansueto said.
His companion, identified as Roland Cajulao, was found dead in a sugarcane field, with a stab wound in the lower abdomen, and a broken jaw, shortly after they robbed the teachers.
One of the teachers was held hostage by the suspects, as they fled from enraged barangay residents.
Mansueto said the suspect and his family were pressured by reports that the teachers will no longer go back to teaching at the Cuyaoyao Elementary School, if he does not surrender.
Escano also expressed fears for his life, with the death of his companion, he added.
The suspect claimed that Cajulao told him that he just wanted to court a teacher. However, Escano said Cajulao declared a hold-up when they caught up with the teachers in one of the classrooms, investigations of the Moises Padilla also showed.
Police records show that Cajulao and Escano are facing murder charges in court. * GPB back
