Alvarez  against
guv’s  2 infra projects

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The construction of the P50 million three-storey Provincial Administration Center Annex Building, and P10-million additional classrooms at the annex building of the Negros Occidental High School, all in Bacolod City, proposed by Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., now face the danger of not being approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental.

This was after Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez said yesterday that there is no reason to build additional classrooms, as the contract only stipulates that 24 classrooms should be constructed at NOHS, and to construct a three-storey PAC annex building.

Instead, Alvarez said he suggested that the P60 million should be equally distributed to the six districts of Negros Occidental for road - concreting projects.

He, however, added that the decision to approve lies in the majority of the members of the provincial council, along with the release of P170 million for phase two of the Negros First Cyber Center.

The request of Marañon for a resolution authorizing him to negotiate for the release of P240 million from the Capitol’s standby loan with the LandBank of the Philippines, remains at the committee level of the Negros Occidental Sangguniang Panlalawigan, until now.

Its approval has been delayed by questions raised by some SP members, asking for more details and explanations about some items included in the proposed loan package.
