SP authorizes Degamo to
secure P350M loan

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Oriental yesterday authorized Gov. Roel Degamo to secure a P350 million loan from the bank to fund the construction of the central block building of the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital.

SP Board members Saleto Erames, Angelo Teves, Rodrigo Alanano, Edmund Dy, Erwin Michael Macias and Fretzie Sanoria favored the move to authorize Degamo, while BMs Arnie Teves, Peve Ligan, Liland Estacion, Georgita Martinez and Jessica Koppin voted against it.

Erames also proposed a compromise resolution, that states that availment of the loan package is subject to review by the Bureau of Local Government of the Department of Finance, and other safeguards provided for by the law.

2 Negrenses in top
10 of nurses exams

Graduates of Silliman University and Saint Paul University, in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, landed in the top 10 of the June 2012 Nurse Licensure Examination passers.

Jessica Franchizca Llanera Estrellado of SU and Feliz Gwenmor Ferrer Fuentes of SPU both garnered 84 percent passing grade and ranked ninth in the examination topped by Roxanne Trinity Lim of the University of Santo Tomas Manila, with a grade of 86.20 percent.

The NLE result was posted by the Professional Regulation Commission yesterday in its website at www.prc.gov.ph.

Five LGUs commit to reduce
child labor in sugarcane areas

The anti-child labor program, Pag-aaral ng Bata para sa Kinabukasan-Livelihood, Education, Advocacy and Protection of the World Vision Development Foundation, will be intensified in five areas of Negros Oriental, a government press release said.

This was after the Mabinay, Manjuyod, Siaton, Sta. Catalina towns, and Tanjay City, committed to reduce the 1,990 child laborers identified to be working in sugarcane plantations in the province.

The focus barangays for ABK3 are Abis, Bagtic, Pantao and Tara in Mabinay; Alangilan, Maaslum and Mandalupang of Manjuyod; Canaway, Casalaan, Napacao and Tayak in Siaton; Caranoche, Kabulakan, Obat and Poblacion in Sta. Catalina; and Pal-ew, San Miguel, Sta. Cruz Nuevo of Tanjay, the press release also said.
