Region 6 police director, Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, yesterday ordered the convening of a summary dismissal proceeding against a policeman involved in the fatal shooting of a Bacoleño and in the injury of his cousin, in Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City, on Aug. 11.
PO3 Kenneth Cerbo, who is assigned at the Bingawan Police Station in Iloilo, gave himself up Wednesday to the Iloilo Police Provincial Office, almost two weeks after he allegedly shot and killed a certain Greggy Alfonso, and also caused injuries to his cousin, Rodolfo Alfonso.
Cruz said Cerbo could be dismissed from the police service for grave misconduct if found guilty of the offense though substantial evidence.
Cerbo, whose wife is working in the Middle East, comes to Bacolod during weekends, police investigations showed.
Senior Inspector Johnnny Tumambing, Bingawan police chief, said Cerbo, who is a resident of Calinog, Iloilo, had surfaced to clear his name.
Cerbo claimed he only did it to defend himself as Rodolfo allegedly had an improvised firearm, an allegation that the victims’ family vehemently denied.
Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, director of the Bacolod City Police Office, said Cerbo will remain under the custody of Tumambing until he receives a subpoena from the City Prosecutor’s Office asking him to answer the frustrated murder and murder complaints filed against him.
Cruz said the administrative case against Cerbo will proceed separately from the criminal proceedings.
He reiterated that he will never condone any wrongdoing or misbehavior of any police personnel under his watch as regional police director.
“PNP personnel who will commit unlawful actions will be justly punished or sanctioned, if evidence warrants that they truly committed the offense,” Cruz said. He, however, also said “We are also quick in giving rewards to our personnel are exemplary in performing their jobs”.”GPB back
