30 taxis caught
without blinkers

More than 30 taxi units without emergency blinkers have been apprehended by the Bacolod City Police Office Traffic Management Unit since City Ordinance 590 was implemented August 11 this year, BCPO director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, said yesterday.

De la Paz said that, based on their monitoring, at least 90 percent of taxis plying the main thoroughfares of Bacolod have already installed blinkers.

He encouraged taxi operators who have not yet installed blinkers on their vehicles to abide by the ordinance for the safety of their drivers.

The TMU is not only going after the taxis without emergency blinkers, but also those with defective ones, de la Paz added.

Under the ordinance, first offense for a malfunctioning blinker light comes with a warning; a P500 fine for the second offense; P1,000 for the third offense; and, for the fourth offense, a P2,000 fine and cancellation of the operator’s business permit until the malfunctioning EWD is repaired.

For not having blinker lights, a taxi operator will be fined P5,000 plus the temporary cancellation of his/her business permit until the unit is installed.

CO 590 was passed after the series of robbery incidents victimizing taxi drivers in the city. One of them was even killed in Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod, de la Paz said.*APN

2 RPA-ABB men detained
for murder try

The two members of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade arrested by the police for frustrated murder in Don Salvador Benedicto town, Negros Occidental, have been endorsed to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in San Carlos City, for detention, Supt. Harold Tuzon said.

Tuzon, who is the San Carlos police chief, said Eddie Larida and Marcelo Segira failed to post bail of P200,000 each, recommended by San Carlos Regional Trial Court Judge Kathrine Go, who issued the warrants for their arrest.

The serving of warrants to Larida and Segira in Brgy. Pinuwayan, Don Salvador Benedicto, also resulted in the recovery of two M1 Garand rifles with seven clips of ammunition, police records show.

Investigations showed that the charges stemmed from the complaint of Jerry Endrina, who survived the shooting incident in Sitio Punod, Brgy. Prosperidad, San Carlos City, on Dec. 11, 2011.

Larida and Segira ranked ninth and tenth, respectively, among the most wanted persons in San Carlos City, the police added.*GPB

Store supervisor
hurt by stray bullet

A store supervisor was hit by a stray bullet at his workplace at the Bacolod City downtown area at about 1:30 a.m. yesterday.

Station 1 commander, Chief Insp. Adonis Rosales, identified the victim as Ricky Robles, 37, of Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, who is temporarily staying at the PBM Ibarra Building at San Sebastian-Gatuslao streets, Bacolod.

Robles sustained a wound in his right hand and was rushed to the Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital. He was released later, Rosales said.

Investigation conducted by Police Officer 2 Johnny dela Peña showed that several workers of Equipment Technical Services where Robles was employed had an argument with an unidentified suspect outside their workplace.

The police theorized that the workers may have butted in on the discussion of the suspect and his female companion who were at the sidewalk when they passed by.

Rosales said the suspect kicked one of the workers identified as Genesis Areja, and when his companions saw this, they tried to retaliate but the suspect fired a shot at them, but missed.

The suspect chased the workers who ran back to their workplace to hide, and fired another shot. The bullet ricocheted off the doorframe and hit Robles, who was coming out of a room, Rosales said.

Station 1 policemen will seek the help of the National Bureau of Investigation for a facial composite of the suspect.*APN
