IN BACOLOD
Suspect in fatal shooting
of ex-cop asset identified

One of the two suspects in the fatal shooting of a former police asset in Brgy. 27, Bacolod City, has been identified by a witness, Station 4 chief, Senior Insp. Dianne Grace Aquitania, told the DAILY STAR yesterday.

Aquitania, however, refused to divulge the name of the suspect pending his arrest.

Former police asset, Nicanor Estita, 52, died at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, about seven hours after two armed men barged into his home and shot him while he was sleeping, police records show.

Estita, who was the second cousin of former Bacolod City police director Senior Supt. Celestino Guara, succumbed to gunshot wounds on his wrist, thigh and forehead.

The three deformed slugs recovered from his house had been sent to the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office crime laboratory to determine the caliber of firearms used, Aquitania said.

She added that they have focused their investigation on the theory that Estita was killed over an old grudge, and not because of his former job. The police will coordinate with the National Bureau of Investigation for the facial sketches of the suspects.*APN

Visit of Region 6 police director
to Bacolod, Neg. Occ. postponed

Bacolod City police director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, said yesterday that the scheduled arrival of Police Regional Office-6 director, Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, in Bacolod City today has been moved to September 4.

He did not give a reason for the cancellation of Cruz's first official visit to Bacolod and Negros Occidental, after he took over from former PRO-6 director, Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, on August 13.

Cruz was set to meet with Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. at the provincial Capitol and to visit the Bacolod City Police Office and the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office.

De la Paz said he will present the accomplishments of the Bacolod City police, and raise some concerns with Cruz.

Meanwhile, de la Paz said the campaign against illegal drugs in secondary and elementary schools in Bacolod has been gaining ground, as evidenced by the arrest of several students in the past weeks for alleged marijuana use and possession.

Station 7 policemen nabbed nine high school students of the Brgy. Mansilingan Agro-Industrial School, for allegedly having a pot session in a toilet at their campus, on August 10.

An 18-year-old student of the Brgy. Sum-ag National High School was also caught with a cellophane bag containing suspected dried marijuana leaves on Friday.

De La Paz said the arrest of the students was the result of the intensified campaign of the police for the reduction of illegal drugs and the close coordination between the BCPO and the school administrations.*APN
