NTU jins shine in Cebu tourney

Nine Negros Taekwondo Union jins captured gold medals, one silver and two bronze during the Visayas Taekwondo Milo Little Olympics held over the weekend in Mabolo Elementary School , Cebu City , a press release from the group said.

More than 150 athletes coming from Regions 6, 7 and 8 joined the tournament.

The two-day competition headed by champion-coach Jimjim Chua, saw intense action and powerful kicks that made the NTU jins clinched the championship in the high school girls' category.

The victorious NTU team, representing their respective schools in the competition, was composed of high school girls gold medalist Stephanie Marie Lamayo of St. John's Institute (fin weight); Irene Therese Bermejo of Trinity Christian School, (fly weight) and her sister Julienne Ysabel Bermejo (bantam weight), and Alyssa Marie Amihan of Negros Occidental High School (heavy weight).

Hoisting the NTU banner for high school boys were finweight Jimbrey Chua of TCS and flyweight Jason Lenard Locsin of West Negros University , who won the gold, while SJI's Anton Adrian Guinanao won the silver in the heavy weight category and Timothy Alcala of University of St. La Salle settled for bronze, the press release said.

In elementary boys, Adrian Phillip Amihan (ETCS I) got the gold in category 1 while Stephanie Alexandra Marie Arietta (Bacolod Alliance Christian School) and Kathleen Dinsay (TCS) won gold for grade school girls in category 3 and 4, respectively. Hannah Flores (TCS) also won bronze in category 3.

All gold medalists will represent Visayas and are set to compete with other champions from the National Capital Region, Luzon, and Mindanao in the National Taekwondo Milo Little Olympics this coming October 18-20 in Marikina City , the press release said.

Coach Chua said that he is very happy that once again NTU jins had brought honor and pride to the province by bringing home nine gold medals, a silver and two bronze and hopes to win in the national competition this coming October.*
