Unfazed by the request of militant groups for the Commission on Election to cancel their accreditation, former Tarlac Governor and presidential aunt Margarita “Tingting” Cojuangco yesterday said she will pursue her intention to run as the first nominee of the party-list group – Aksyon Magsasaka-Partido Tinig ng Masa.
Cojuango, accompanied by Wencelito Andanar and Michael Plana, who endorsed the Aksyon Magsasaka party-list group, will represent farmer's groups in Congress.
Cojuangco yesterday met and discussed plans and possible projects of the AM – PTM with Governor Alfredo Maranon Jr., in line with the food security program of the province.
The Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas had earlier asked the Comelec to cancel the accreditation of AM - PTM party-list after learning that Cojuangco is running for Congress under the farmer's group banner.
The Cojuangco clan owns Hacienda Luisita, the vast sugar estate that the Supreme Court had ordered to be distributed to farmer-beneficiaries last year.
KMP deputy secretary Willy Marbella said in a statement, they issued said that “A landlord claiming to represent farmers is an insult to the collective intelligence of the Filipino peasantry and the people. We reject the haciendero President's aunt as [the] farmers' representative in Congress.”
Militant election watchdog Kontra Daya also filed a complaint before the Comelec for the cancellation of the accreditation of Aksyon Magsasaka.* GPB
