Two teenagers were arrested while in the act of delivering four medium-sized plastic sachets containing suspected shabu inside the city district jail in Barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City, yesterday.
Jail Officer 1 Angelo Ragay identified the suspects as Jason Jacela, a third year high school student at Junob National High School, and Jimmy Tanilon, a job order employee at the City Engineer’s Office, both 19 years old, and residents of the city housing site in Brgy. Cadawinonan.
He said the two handed over for inspection a plastic bag containing mango, a pair of slippers, and bagoong (fish paste) that was placed in a plastic cup sealed with masking tape, and said the bag was for an inmate, identified as Ramir Sta. Ana, who is facing a drugs case.
Ragay said he discovered the shabu that had been placed in the bottom of the cup that was filled with bagoong.
The two suspects said they did not know about the shabu, as they were merely asked by Sta. Ana’s wife, Emily, who was their neighbor, to deliver the items.
City jail warden, Senior Insp. Benjamin Oira, said stricter measures will be undertaken to prevent the entry of contraband inside the facility, that is overcrowded with inmates. He said that from the ideal capacity of 80, the present population is 312, with more than 70 percent facing drug-related charges.*JG
