The Soroptimist International of Bacolod held the induction of its officers recently at the Bacolod Pavillon Resort Hotel and Restaurant, with SI Philippines Region governor-elect Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar as guest speaker and inducting officer.

Abubakar stressed the important role of women in nation-building and enjoined members to continue working with other sectors of society in improving the lives of women, especially in disadvantaged situations, a press release from the group said.

A first-term councilor of Zamboanga City, Abubakar traces her roots in Bacolod as her paternal grandfather, Nicasio Sayson Valderrosa, who became the first mayor of Zamboanga City in 1937, was from the City of Smiles, the press release added.*
