Election roadshow
for PWDs on Sept. 6

The Fully-Abled Nation Day national roadshow will be held in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, September 6, by the Foundation for Communication Initiatives Inc.

This is conducted to increase the participation of persons with disabilities in the 2013 elections, a press release from organizers said.

FOCI managing director Criselle Capistrano is urging stakeholders to participate in the activity that will call on the Commission on Elections to ensure the easy access of PWDs to registration and polling precincts. The FAN Day will start with a disability-sensitivity workshop, followed by a media interaction, the press release also said.

The activity, implemented by the Asia Foundation with support from the Disability-Inclusive Elections program of the Australian Agency for International Development, will be initiated in areas where PWD concentrations are located, like Dumaguete, Iloilo, Legazpi, Cotabato, Davao, La Union, and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

The foundation will collaborate with PWDs, disabled peoples organizations, the Comelec, Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting, and other elections-focused NGOs to increase the awareness of the Comelec and local government units on the needs and concerns of PWDs, and to promote their participation in elections and other democratic processes, Capistrano added in the press release.*
