Talisay, La Castellana to
host boxing tourney

The 2nd Governor Alfredo G. Marañon Jr. Boxing Tournament elimination round in the 3rd and 5th Districts of Negros Occidental will be held simultaneously on September 8 and 9 in Talisay City and at the La Castellana Covered Court.

Provincial Sports Coordinator and Executive Assistant to the Governor Angel Verdeflor said the 5th District tournament was originally scheduled on September 1 and 2 but they have to reset the competition due to some hitches.

Vying for the top honors and the chance to represent the 3rd District in the championship round tentatively set in October are the boxers from the local government of Talisay City, Victorias, Silay, Murcia and EB Magalona.In the 5th District, it will be heated contest among the best fighters from the towns of La Castellana, Isabela, Moises Padilla, Binalbagan, Hinigaran and Himamaylan City.

Under the tournament rules, each LGU is entitled to field their entries in different weight categories, including in the women division.

Early this month, Escalante City topped the overall championship in the 1st District as their boxers beat their rivals from San Carlos City, Escalante City and the towns of Don Salvador Benedicto, Toboso and Calatrava.*NAB
