Agro industrial policy,
sugarcane forum set

A multi-stakeholders forum on the national agro-industrial policy, sugarcane industry roadmap and sustainable development will be held at the MassKara Hall of the Bacolod Government Center in Bacolod City 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Invited to the affair are Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala who will speak on the food security program and development, and Trade and Industry Undersecretary Adrian Cristobal, who will discuss the One Country, One Voice Program and Development.

About 120 key leaders of Negros Occidental and representatives from Panay and Negros Oriental are expected to attend the multi stakeholders forum, organizers said.

Sponsoring organizations are the United Nations Civil Society Advisory Council, Fair Trade Alliance and the Philippine Employer-Labor for Social Partnership Inc.

Bacolod Acting Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson will deliver the welcome remarks while Emmanuel Buendia of the United Nations Development Program will discuss the Development Agenda Beyond 2015, and Rebecca Malay – lead convenor of United Nations Civil Society Advisory Council, will tackle “Rio+10 in Restrospect and CSO Perspective”.

Dr. Rene Ofreneo and Prof. Ted Mendoza of PELSPI will talk on the national agro-industrial policy strategy, and Renato Banas of the Negros Organic Agri Movement on “Why Coke was an issue?”

The Sugar Industry Roadmap 2011-2016 will be discussed by Jesus Barrera, board member of the Sugar Regulatory Administration. Statements from reactors will follow.

Former Gov. Rafael Coscolluela will lead the synthesis and closing.*CPG
