Fire razes 3 houses
in Bacolod
A fire believed caused by an electrical short circuit gutted three houses in Brgy. 2, Bacolod City, at about 7:05 a.m. yesterday.
Arson investigator, Senior Fire Officer 2 Harry Fernandez of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Bacolod, said they received a call at about 7:15 a.m. from a concerned citizen that several houses at Jalandon Street in Purok Lampirong were on fire.
Fernandez said firemen from the Bacolod City BFP were dispatched to the area and were assisted by volunteers from the Amity and Chinese Chamber Fire Brigades. The fire was put out at about 7:23 a.m. with no injuries reported, he said.
Investigation showed that the fire originated at the second floor of the house owned by Marilou Dy and rapidly spread to the neighboring houses of Estela Dy and Marilyn Dy.
BFP estimated the damage from the fire at P85,000 but residents affected placed it at P350,000.
Maribel Toleco Barbosa, one of the affected residents said, they failed to save anything because she had gone to attend mass and found the house of her cousin Estela Dy, where she temporarily stays, already burned when she returned.
Fernandez said that although their investigation as to the cause of the fire is ongoing, their theory is that it was triggered by the overheating of an electric fan left plugged to the socket.*APN back
