Exhibit to open Dec. 8

An exhibit by artist Fernando Kabigting will be mounted at Italia Restaurant, 23rd-San Agustin streets in Bacolod City, from December 8 to January 8, 2013, a press release from organizers said.

Kabigting has been an artist for over 50 years. In his mid-20s, he opened his first gallery, Gallery K, in Bacolod City. The seventh of eight children born in Manila, he did not have exposure to other artists, but admired the works of national artist Fernando Amorsolo, among many others, the press release said.

His first pieces consisted mostly of subjects ranging from still life to landscapes, on oil or charcoal media. In 1988, he held his first one-man exhibition at the Philippine Consulate in Manhattan, New York.

Kabigting suffered a stroke in 1999. Working with debilitating physical conditions like double vision and a half-paralyzed body, he retrained himself to paint left-handed and discovered the joy of painting in the abstract, the press release also said.
